Another Ludwig Date Question

Loading...

I have a set I ordered in November of 76' and the snare was 155xxxx and the rest of the drums were 158xxxx. I also have one from 1973 that are numbered 130xxxx.

Anything is possible.

Thanks to everyone for the valuable info! The actual serials are as follows: Bass drum: 1019015 (no granite interior), 16" floor tom: 1244717 (granite interior), 18" floor tom: 1019304 (no granite interior), and 14" rack tom: 1245457 (granite interior). All have the pointy badges.

Also, does the hardware help date the drums? I remember watching a video about the 1969/1970 "crossover" when Ludwig changed their logo from from the more scripty looking '60s logo to the straight font 70's logo, some of the hardware such as the bass drum cymbal mount and floor tom leg mounts still had the '60's style logo. If that's the case, this kit has the '60's logo embossed on the cymbal mount and tom leg mounts, however the rail mount for the rack tom has the '70's Ludwig logo etched in to it.

The blend of logos on the hardware may help, but it is sometimes difficult to know for certain if the hardware is original to the drums or has been switched during the decades. The holes for the tom mount, leg mounts and cymbal mount are the same.
