....and just when I thought I seen everything....

A lady on the local CL listed a Slingerland drumkit. Went to check them out and to my surprise,THE DAMN SHELLS ARE CARDBOARD,NOT WOOD! Assuming it was a 'rigged' kit I went through Rob Cooks THE SLINGERLAND BOOK and there they were. Knowing these are a 'flop',I just wonder if anybody is on the look-out for them. The snare is beautiful, too bad it isn't wood. For the small price I paid I can profit from the hardware thats on them. What would YOU [Attachment: 100524]

They've made it this long together and look pretty nice. I'd keep them together and enjoy them or sell them as a set to someone that might be interested in owning them.

Two of the drums didnt come with bottom hoops and they are visually warped.I've seen the foil badges before,I have a couple of maple snare drums with the same kind of badge

What is the story behind these? I've never even heard of such thing. These are actual cardboard?

[Attachment: 100531] Like I said, the 6.5X14 8-lug snare is absolutely stunning. Im afraid if I remove the hoops the shell will warp and wont be able to put them back on again. Looking through the SS head the bearing edges are already flattened-out.

If they are warped, I guess we needn't discuss how they sound. What a crazy idea that was. Must have been something they thought of for entry level kids that were going to do a number on them anyway.

As mentioned in Rob Cook's book, the shells were made from Sonatube, which is the cardboard tubes also used for telescopes! This is the first set I've ever seen and I can't help but wonder how they were marketed. Yes, you could sell off the parts for considerably more than you paid for them, but I'd keep them to remind myself of one of Slingerland's biggest flops...both financially and engineering. How they could ever come out with these "drums" is beyond me!
