Hello,
I have a MIJ 3-ply Gracy kit that I am giving a thorough cleaning and bearing edge job. The shells are obviously 3-ply but they do have reinforcing rings installed. My question is about where the tom holder and cymbal bracket are installed. There is nothing reinforcing them and I want to give them the support they need. I was thinking about just taking some 1/4" plywood and putting it on the inside of the shell, just slightly larger than the mount/bracket for better support. I wasn't planning on gluing it to the shell. I was just planning on drilling holes in the plywood to match the hole configuration of the mount/bracket, and then just using longer screws and large washers to secure the mount/bracket, and keep the wood tight at the same time.
I am not sure if this is the best way or not. Will this way cause buzzing or weird vibrations inside the drum? I have never done this before, so I looking for the best way to go about this.
The shell is structurally fine and in round, I just want to give more support to the tom and cymbal mount so I don't have any problems down the road.
Thanks.
