You can put them as they were, but honestly I doubt you would notice if you didn't. And so long as they weren't super tightened there shouldn't be too much of an imprint from them.

Mighty fine drum you have there Sir!
I'm the one that uses a hotplate may be also called a plate warmer. They are $5 at Thrift, second hand stores. You don't need one for a single snare project. Best thing to clean tension rod inserts is "Pipe Cleaners" fold over a couple of times and with 99% rubbing alchol give a good twist.
A spot of 3 and 1 as you insert the tension rod into the lug receiving bit all should be good. Any questions just ask.
