advice for ludwig purchase

Hi

I made my mind up about buying this year a Ludwig classic maple 6 plies kit in 14x24, 10x14, 16x18 size (maybe i’ll take a second floor tom in 16x16, I’ll see), in wmp or chrome over maple finish. I’ve asked the drumdealer a quote and it‘s seems not so expensive I expected ($1799 for the 3 drums + $249 shipping to France + french fees about 23%). I’ve downloaded the order guide on the official Ludwig site, filled it and got a quote of $2940 (?). The price on a French web store is $3,485 for a 22, 13, 16 + snare 14x6,5 kit. I’m a little bit confused. I miss something somewhere for sure. I’d like to know what. I would buy a second hand kit in good condition if I could find one here in france in the size and finish I’ve mentioned, but it’s pretty rare. I guess I could easily find one in the us, but it’ll be more expensive to ship to france for a private individual. Does anybody know if I’ll have to pay French fees for second hand stuff ? Thank you for answering me. I take any advice and opinion. I apologize for my English that may sound odd sometimes. Thanks.

First off your English is just fine, You will have to pay import duties on a used kit as well as a new one, the price quote you got from Ludwig are you sure that included shipping?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

no it does not include shipping. that's why I say the quote from the drumdealer seems not expensive

I've posted here cause I got friendly and useful answers about a second-hand ludwig kit that was on sale on a french site. is there anybody to tell me if the drumdealer's price quote is correct ? has this store a good reputation ? anything I should know before starting a deal ? thank you for your help and advice. good new ludwig drums will be vintage one day, won't they ?

hi

thanks. yes it helps. i'll keep on searching. i'm not in a hurry. i've got my good old orange drumkit to make my day. i'm gonna recut the bearing edges with double 45° soon. orange drums were in made in france by capelle for orange, from the seventies to the mid-eighties, and the bearing edges of all their production are 45° on the outside egde of the shell and it dampers the sound.
