I believe this is the first time I've uploaded a picture of my butt on the internet.
A Slingerland project
Here is a pic of the wing nut you need, not the correct part but the wing nut is correct.[ame]http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Slingerland-Radio-King-bass-drum-muffler-Wing-Nuts-and-Parts-Only-/281369162732?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4182e8b3ec[/ame]
Good question. How do I tell?
Thanks for the wing nut pic; I thought it might look something like that.
post a pic of the snare drum with out the heads on it. shoot the bearing edges 360 degree view..Just the batter side is fine.
Here's some bearing edge pics.
...and some more.
It is a 3 ply shell.
Is it still a Radio King then? I thought RK's were only solid shell.
About the outer ply chunk that's missing from the bass drum (picture 2 in post #3) - I thought I'd just find a piece of black wrap of similar thickness & glue and trim to fit. It will be mostly hidden by the head and hoop. Any other solutions come to mind?
Over the last couple of nights I've given the bass shell a going over with GHS guitar gloss. It's a big drum, lots of real estate to scrub (2463.01 square inches - the last .01 is the toughest.) There are a few areas, mostly under some of the lugs, where the schmutz is really baked on. Will need a bit more firepower to deal with that.
I will move the calf head to the resonant side & install an Aquarian vintage on the batter side.
I will also try an Aquarian vintage on the 10" tom.
I must say I'm getting pretty stoked about getting this kit back to playability. I sure appreciate the breadth & depth of knowledge on this forum & the willingness to share.
There are also plied shell Radio kings you have one of those, Not all Rk's are solid shell.
