You could also go for the powerstroke fiberskyn.....and save the hassle of the felt....
dang...they have those ?Coffee Break2
Journeyman...check out EgoCentric single point lugs. I usually use those as replacement lugs when I renovate an old sorta thru-lug kit like the Classmate. No need to redrill or drill add'l holes...and you end up w/ independently tunable heads. Just a thought. Although, I agree with you that, for a bass drum, the existing equal tuning setup isn't bad really.....Remo Fiberskyn bass drum head with a falam patch sounds like the prescription I would go with for the bass drum batter.....if t seems to "lively", stretch some felt across it.
So, I got the Fiberskyn and tried it with an Ambassador coated reso. When I tried it, I saw the value of having a heavier head on the batter with the thru-lug design: because the tension is same front/back, the thicker batter head has a lower pitch, which is what I like. Inspired by that I put an Aquarian SK1 on the batter, and with a felt strip on the Ambassador reso, it's aMAZing. Great thump with just enough quickly decaying boom.
I'll find a good use for the Fiberskyn on another kick too. Experimenting is half the fun, of course. Thanks again.
SK1's are always nice. Sorry the F'skin didn't work out for you...they are livelier tha SK's....
I, for one, would like to applaud you for trying to keep the double-tension heads on that bass. Hope it works out.
Thanks again for the advice and encouragement!

Technically the fiberskyn would be thicker than the superkick I, as it has that extra layer on the surface that the Superkick does not. Superkick IIs would be a good choice too....I swear by them!
