A new way to cut wrap??

From jccabinets

Oh boy, I dont know if glass glitter is a good choice, sounds like trouble. But let us know.

Honestly, I'm a little leery of the glass glitter, too. As most of you know it's a little thicker and IMO much more brittle. Not real easy to work with. It's all I've got left to cut at this time, however...

I think I'm going to have this break in my possession for several weeks yet. So I will have opportunity to do some other wrap. Maybe soon -- I've found an early 70s Ludwig kit (22/16/13) in Joplin MO that was "bounced around quite a bit" by the tornado a couple years back. Will be looking at it (along with some other stuff) sometime this week. From the way the owner described it, it is a rewrap candidate...

I might get to see it this afternoon. I thought I had a ball game and don't (looked at the calendar cross-eyed, I guess). It's one of those "garage finds" as the guy also has a complete Reuther (sp?) kit, some other odds-and-ends drums, hardware, cymbals, cases, etc., all for one money.

I didn't get the chance to try & cut the glass glitter yesterday. Just too much going on with Easter and all, and I let my wife be the "boss" on these kind of days... :)

Bill, how did this work out? Cutting wrap was the first thing that came to mind when I saw one years back. A friend of mine has one, so I am curious...

I've also thought about taking it to a print shop and asking if they'd cut it on the paper cutter...

Print shop might do it if the blade is dull and due to be changed. The problem can be finding a shop with a wide enough cutter. They would need to cushion the wrap from the clamp as it has tons of pressure and can "crease or dent" the wrap. A couple sheets of chipboard would do the trick there. If you do find a shop to cut it be present to watch. I have seen guys cut metal rulers and jogging blocks in half by accident. Laughing H So I'd think cutting plastic wrap would be a snap.

Glenn - I've been working with that glass glitter stuff, it's like concrete! Stoney and gritty. It would ruin the blade after one cut and I don't know a bindery or print shop anywhere that would risk the expensive blade on the cutting machine just to do an experimental procedure like that. Especially with something as sandy/gritty as the backing on glass glitter wrap. You're a printer by trade like me. You know how much it costs and how much time and trouble it is to send those blades out for sharpening. No shop would take the job in.

Too many great drums to list here!
