Done the magnet test and yes its steel. I have also recorded with the snare to get that 70's sound and it really does still sound and play great. The internal damper is something i miss from my new snare (new Yamaha). The old kit still sounds great as well although i never recorded with it and it still has the original skins on it.And i still haven't got round to cleaning it up yet.
