A kit like that calls for a deep-dish 6.5 x 14 Supra ala John Bonham just so the snare can keep up with the rest of the kit volume-wise. Steel drums are dry and LOUD. You don't want the sound to die when you go to the snare. Go deep and un-muffled or go home! :D

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Yes agree on the snare, maybe a coliseum. 6.5 is nice also.

I have a Ludaloy marcher 12 x 15 but didn't know they made stainless, thanks for the info.

I have a Coliseum in a black wrap and my Jason Bonham set has a supra...I`m still kind of leaning towards a 10x14 S/S marching snare if I can find one at a decent price and in decent shape...

I think I will put each of those snares with the set to see what it they sound like...

Thanks for the advice, gents!!

Cheers

My kit came with a coleseum

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I`ll probably test drive some snares tomorrow...Did Ludwig ever make a stainless or chrome Coliseum? I can`t recall if I have ever seen any...

Cheers

Don't know if they ever made steel or chrome coliseums, but you can now buy this beast at a reasonable price.

I`ve seen those listed online, but, I would like to keep the vintage vibe going with this set...They are ornate snares though!!

Cheers

I like the sound of my Coliseum with the set...Very deep sounding, but, still articulate...Too bad it`s not stainless!!

I feel that these are very under-rated snares from Ludwig...

Here are a couple of pics of it...

Cheers
