6mm Quick Release Top Nut

Loading...

I want to equip my 6mm stands with quick release tops, like the Sonor or Vater models that I can't find.

I see a post about using 6mm to 8mm converter's used in RC stuff and I'm ready/willing/able to thread them but first I'm hoping somebody will have some Sonor's or Vaters laying around.

Hey Jim, did you try the sonor museum message board? I see them on there once in a while.

Good luck, Gary.

I didn't know there was such a site! Thanks!! I just went there and signed up and I'm waiting for them to send me the confirmation email. Maybe there is hope that I won't have to make my own adapter from 6mm to 8mm.

I'm stuck! I registered but never got the confirmation email and the site won't let me re-register. Good grief!

Anybody got any "juice" with the Sonor message board or have any idea how to get around this catch-22? Violin

Give it a little time. The site is run by one guy(the Rev.) and he does everything himself. Also if you use a gmail account it might just get ignored. Try emailing him and see if that helps.

Good luck, Gary.

There appears to be a problem. I've gone there twice and requested that the activation email be resent and twice have been told it has been sent but I"m not getting them.

I can't find a link/address to email or contact anybody. Could you provide a link for me? Thanks much. Jim

Hi Jim, i'll see if i can get it, in the mean time did you read the "before you sign up" thread at the top of the page. It says usual wait time is 24 hrs. So you may get something by later today.

He really is the only admistrator and goes through this long process to help keep it a less congested board. The Rev. is really good guy and he will get to it. I've been a member of the museum since 2001 when there was only two or three sections and about 50 members or so now there are thousands and still run by one adm.

Gary.

Thanks very much for your interest and attention and efforts. No... I didn't read the stuff at the top. My bad....

I'll wait several days now before I decide it's a glitch.

Is this what you mean (Sonor)?

If I remember right, those threaded on, or could be squeezed for "quick release". I'm not sure if they were 6 or 8mm, though.

Also, Universal Percussion used to sell "generic Sonor" ones too, although I don't see it on their website any longer. I'm not sure what the thead was on those, either. You can email Universal Percussion and ask if they have any left, or could refer you to dealers who do (www.universalpercussion.com).

If you are looking for 6mm exclusively, have you tried Camber T-Tops?

They thread on like normal wing nuts, but they function like the old school "Cymbal Snaps". The good thing is, they have no moving parts like a Cymbal Snap. You just take the cymbals on and off at an angle. I use these on all my stands, and it works wonders, especially if you don't use a top felt (I don't). Even if you do, you can maniuplate a felt on and off pretty easily if you stretch the center hole a bit. They come in 6 or 8mm. And they look really cool and "old school". You can usually find them on ebay. There is a guy on ebay with the seller ID of "kikoka" that sells a lot of Camber stuff A lot of Sonor stuff too. Check those t-tops out. They have the offical Vyacheslav Seal of approval!
