65 Pioneer Snare bed missing

Loading...

I have a real nice 65 Pioneer shell (champagne sparkle) that has been lying around for years and I just recently picked up lugs for it and was looking at the snare bed. I guess I should say, trying to find the snare bed. Is it common for these to have almost no bed?? Not sure if I should have one cut for it. Would appreciate any advice.

Almost none is often a good way to describe some from that era. The 50's WFL/Ludwig models had pretty deep beds, but not the mid 60's. Wide shallow beds were often used. You can put the shell on a flat surface and shine a small light in that area and should be able to see a small amount of light come through at the beds.

Thanks guys, I guess my next question is---is it worth it to cut a snare bed for this drum?

Thanks--Pat

I sure wouldn't modify it. That was part of their magic...not a mistake.
