This will be the start of my resto thread on the Slingerland project kit.
I'll cover the main problem areas first. The reso side of the 12", 13" and 16" toms have some seperation at the bearing edges. The 13" is one of the worst with a huge 1/8" gap in one area. So we started this one first. For this repair I went to my son Dan's house who builds and restores custom and vintage guitars. He cut, sanded and fitted some maple veneer into the seperation as it was too large of a gap to just glue and clamp. Once this area is dry we'll move around the edge of the shell and repair and glue the rest. Then fill and lightly sand the bearing edges nicey nice. He cut some wood blocks that contour the edge of the shell insde and out. We'll use these for this one and make new ones for each shell as we progress. Here's a pic of the shell glued and clamped in place. At this point I need to give some props to my son Dan for his help. www.dgncustomguitars.com He does some very nice work! More to come..........
