60's Premier 3 pc in black pearl

Thought I'd take a stab at my first restoration project.

Waiting a few days for a set of 12'' pre-int heads from the east coast so I decided to attempt to clean up the chrome which is fairly pitted. A few pits here and there I don't mind but these were a bit much for my taste.

Started off with the classic dawn bath mixed with a bit of LA's Totally Awesome.

Some before pics:

Dawn bath on the tom lugs and hardware is still in progress, but I hurried the hoops a long last night with some quad ought steel wool and wow, took off a lot of the pits and polished up the die cast rims nicely and made no scratches:

:D

I figured you were joking, just couldn't reply earlier :)

The steel wool was actually some 00 :o

Thought I was using 0000, but will take extra care not to mix up my steel wools for the lug casings etc :D

Continuing on...

Cleaned up the 12'' tom and lugs and the 16'' leg mounts and legs and did the Novus 1 and 2 treatments to the shells:

Pre-int heads came today, ordered on Monday, so that was blazing fast!

Word to the wise - the Remo collar fits a bit out of the rim depth wise, but the heads fit fine. Checked against another Premier tom I have that still has the original Everplay resonant, and Premier brand heads have a much shallower collar.

The kit is missing 1 rubber foot for the floor tom legs, 2 bass drum claws, 1 bass drum rod and 8 tension washers. Had to substitute with 2 similar claws and 1 American style T rod for the bass drum and scrounged up some not very correct tension screw washers.

Saving the bass drum for last.

I'm really liking how this $126 drum set is turning out so far:
