60's Gretsch kit - type of metal?

I'm looking to do some restoration to my gretsch set and I'm wondering what type(s) of metal I'm dealing with so I can use the right solutions. I'm specifically wondering if the hardware is chrome plated or nickel plated (or something else).

I haven't really identified the drums yet, and I've learned it's difficult to do this with gretsch kits. Not sure if that matters but I think it might be a "bop" kit from the 60's.

I know there are probably different ways I should clean the different metal, from the plated parts to the plain metal parts. I'd like to get rid of the rust if possible, maybe for that I'll use wd-40 and a toothbrush? And I think I'll soak the plated metal in dish soap then use a polish. I'm new to all of this and open to suggestions.

I'm new as well... just soaked rusted parts from a Gretsch 4157 snare overnight in combo of CLR and The Works as seen on a YouTube video. Worked great! Started w/ vinegar but wasn't good enough.

Yes, chrome. You won't have any luck getting the rust off that knob though, since it's missing so much chrome. It will never look shiny again. But it's easily replaced if that's important to you.

It appears someone installed non-original hardware on one of your drums. Can we see the whole kit?

BTW, I'd guess very late 60's based on the hexagonal backing screws and 6-digital serial.

They are a bit of a mess right now, and in boxes. Thanks for the info, as I'm sure you know, it can be difficult determining what year the drums we're manufactured.

Oh and, yeah, I'm missing the snare drum because it was stolen some years ago. I also had a bunch of old zildjian cymbals that came with it but they are pretty much all gone now. This was actually my first kit (parents bought it off our neighbor for $500 and included hardware, 20 or so pairs of sticks and like 6 cymbals!!!). I didn't fully appreciate what I had until later.
