50s WFL club date

Loading...

Hi,

First time poster here. I just bought a 50s vintage WFL WMP club date bass drum with the single, double ended lugs. I've seen pictures of drums of this type before and they've all had longer bowtie lugs, but this one has standard size lugs like you would find on a tom or snare. They appear to be original. Has anyone heard of WFL doing this? I'm trying to find matching toms to make a kit — I already have a mid 50s wmp snare, though with the standard double luge — if ajybody knows where I can pick some up.

the wfl clubdate lugs were this size the larger ones where on ludwigs, here's a pic of my 50's clubdate bass drum the same lugs as yours! with wfl clubdats the largest floor tom they made was a 14x14" to go to a 16" you'll have to get a super classic floor tom, that is what my kit came with! oh by the way Welcome to the forum!

Well that clears that up. Thanks. I much prefer the 14" anyway so that's good news. I think the hard part is going to be finding one. Thanks for the response and the welcome.

since youre putting a kit together, you might also keep your eye open for a 12x15 for a floor tom. there are some tenor toms around that size with no legs. i'm currently using a 12x15 clubdate style marching snare with my 22/13 clubdate combos. they sound real good too. good luck!

Yes, a 12" X 15" would actually be the correct FT for at least some '50s Club Date kits:

I just added a late '50s 12" X 15" FT to my 1964 Club Date kit. Not exactly stock at that point - by then 14" X 14" was standard issue - but it sure looks and sounds good!
