hi to all as im a restorer for old decorative finishes we do this all the time we (i mean a select few in my field ) ive found out from discovery as we call it by opening windows into the past the newer finishes will come off easy as i put ithe stripper on as it activate almost instantly then you can actually remove 1 layer at a time but the stuff on the market in strippers that are available (i do guest speaking on historic restoration on decorative finishes and wood restoration)is geared toward the home owner lady and do it yourself there are a lot of removers that are environmentally friendly i found that the lesser strength ones are great for final cleaning on most surface as also when we get down to the original finishes we will stop with the strippers and start using cleaners of different strengths from acetone to to tsp etc strong to mild diluting even simply green amazing stuff now the tricky stuff lacquer finishes can only be removed with lacquer thinner if the glass clear coat on the drum rap is a lacquer base stay away from it it will melt it which i wondering if it is as in italy they us a polyester base which melts with lacquer thinner if its plastic of some kind same problem always test a small area during final clean up and u mite be surprised at the results good luck
some real good strippers in different strengths they have many,a co called back to nature i like the ultra srtip i coat and bag it with plastic overnite spritz with water (water cleanup)and int real works good...hope this helps a little
