I own a 1920's nickel over brass ten lug 4 X 14 Ludwig snare. It's in good working condition and sounds amazing, but the throw-off slips when playing. I'd love to replace it but don't know the name of the throw-off model that was used on these drums. Anyone know the name of the throw-offs used on 20's Ludwig 4 X 14 snare drums? And while I'm at it, does anyone have a lead on one of these?

I think it's a P-84.
Yes, they tend to slip when playing. I have a drum with one of them and have the same problem.

I believe there is a way to tweak the mechanism to make it less likely to slip, but there's no guarantee that any one you might find won't have the same problem. It's a design flaw, apparently. I use a rubber band to hold mine in place since I never use the drum with the snares "off" (disengaged).
The 1927 Ludwig catalog has it called the "Professional" Model #338.
It fit the 4", 5", and 6.5" metal shell drums.
Edit: O-Lugs is probably right, too. My guess is that the Model 338 later became known as the P-84.
