Can anyone please tell me how many plies and of what wood these drums were constructed? I can't figure it out. Thanks.

IIRC, they were 8 ply maple.
I thought they were either be 4 or 6 ply, maple/poplar. I think they went to 9 ply all maple in the late 90s.
thanks. I cannot see 8 plies there. maybe maple and poplar 5 or 6?

ssoccer,
During the time period that you're interested in, 1992, Ludwig's literature described their shells as "cross laminated plies of maple and select American veneers". No mention at all as to what those "select American veneers" were! The "Classic" series were 6-ply shells, with the "Super Classic" shells being 4-ply. Hope this helps.

Probably 6 plies. I love the sound of those drums. Lots of tone and still fat/warm sounding with the rounded bearing edges.
Ludwig is making the new Club Dates down the road from you with maple and poplar again. 7 ply.
Thanks to you all. Very helpful.
