hi -

does anyone have any knowledge about 1981 Superstars? I have a chance to pick up a kit that's been stored for 25 years for $1,500. Black lacquer in mint condition -

12-13-16-22-6x14 snare. New G1 Clears on toms. Are they worth it? Guy selling them says they were some of the best drums Tama ever made. Thank you.

i am thinking that is a little high....... or way high.

maybe get some pics up and that will help, do you get any hardware or cymbals with the deal? are the toms deep or standard? info on the snare can help.... is it wood, steel. the wood snares catch a fair buck these days. and the superstars are some very nice drums. the more info you provide the more help you will get here> best of luck!

Black lacquer was not a catalogued option in 1981. Be sure of what your getting!

Agreed with all of this. They are great drums but only go for that kind of money in certain sizes and finishes, and piano black isn't one of them. That is WAY too much money for those drums, though I wish it was the opposite.

Check COMPLETED Ebay auctions to get a better idea of current market values. While I agree the're worth that kind of cash, they sadly are not in this market. That snare can't be 6" deep,Tama never made one in that depth. It is either 5 or 6 1/2".If the drums are the X-tras series or power toms 12x11,13x12 sizes, the're worth even less.

I own a set of 83's and can attest to the quality of these drums.Whether or not they are worth the asking price is up to the seller and buyer.I'm not sure if,given the nature of the wood used and the level of hand finishing that they could be reproduced (if at all) for the price of the "mint condition" drums that are for sale. What can you get for $1,200?Mostly high end Chinese drums.I would say if they were COMPLETE sets, snare, pedals and stands, that would be a fair price. Most of the shell packs being sold are missing the snare, which is too bad.I wish I'd known about these drums 20 years ago,as I'd have saved alot of money buying and selling all sorts of drums to come to this end result. This is only my opinion, and I welcome rebuttals-Burger Kin
