1979 Zildjian 10" splash

looking on eBay... saw this splash..but does something look fishy about that hollow ink stamp logo? Does anyone have one where the ink stamp shows an outline outside of the word Zildjian where it was pressed hard to show this or is this a really good homemade stamp? Maybe Zildjian used a different, smaller stamp for splashes? The stamp on top, splash, looks of the period but ...not sure

If I recall correctly, the outline should be the same thickness all around. The shadow effect just doesn't look right.

Looks like a cheap rubber stamp that one could have made up at a stationary supply store. There shouldn't be an outline like that.

Have you seen the logo stamps used by either Zildjian/Sabian/Paiste? Check out some of the videos on Youtube that show the manufacturing process and it will be easier to understand why that stamp just don't look right.

Glad I could help.

I'm sure they used the same type of stamp process even way back in the old daze ('79) and propbably have a scaled stamp for the smaller cymbals.

I'm just certain that logo stamp image you posted simply wouldn't make it past the Zlidjian QC folks too.

Ok....even if it is an ink stamp that someone restamped, what's the big deal? Sabian sells a "logo renewal" kit for when the ink logos wear off from cleaning. Again, what's the big hassle? As long as the makers mark stamped into the metal is there and it has the era appropriate markings, it should be legit. That's how I see it anyway......

Same here.....I'd rather my cymbals look "old"....and to do that..."old" cymbals usually didn't have ink stamps. So that's why I say no big deal.....

I wish my K Custom Darks didn't have any ink stampings, they'd look so much better without them. Burger Kin

Zildjian doesn't offer any logo refresh service or products and the Sabian offering is nothing more than a stencil and Sharpie.

It think that it may act as a potential red flag regarding authenticity and should be considered along with manufacture stamp/engraving. I doubt that a ring of N i g e r i an scammers is trying to corner the phony vintage splash cymbal market...but I'm really leary of eBay and CL....OK more like flat out paranoid.
