1972 Ludwig Octa-Plus all original for sale

Loading...

Hello to all. This is my first post.

I have a 1972 Ludwig Octa-Plus kit that was originally purchased by my uncle. In the mid 90's I purchased the set from him as he was no longer playing. I have gigged with the kit for many years. Up until a couple of years ago I was still able to play. Due to illness I can no longer do so with any consistancy. I have made the decision to sell the kit due to the fact that it takes up allot of space. I am only selling the shells and mounting hardware for them. I am determined to have something around to play on even if I can only look at it.

The kit is butcher block finish concert toms with all weather factory inner coating. the sizes are 6,8,10,12,13,14,15,16,18 and two 14x22 bass drums. I am keeping my super sensative as we have had a long relationship. The drums have been gigged for 38years. They have pitting in the hardware/hoops. The shells are all original. No pieced together stuff. The kit was ordered new in 1972 from Drums Unlimited in Bethesda Maryland. I grew up watching my uncle gig with them and then took over the helm for many years myself but now those days are gone.

My problem is I have no clue what to ask for them. I figured you all might be able to give me some input. I almost went straight to ebay as I have a great track record but figured a stop here would not hurt. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how to shrink them down.

Thanks a bunch and I welcome any and all comments suggestions etc.

I will return in a bit.

Today I am going to try and get things a little more dialed in with posting pics. I have some new heads that I have been meaning to install for some time now. (I use the hair dryer method for new head seating) I will work on each drum and tune then take photo's of each so that an acurate description via pictures can be viewed. Thanks to this site, I feel I have people I can relate with.

Back soon, thanks to all.

Looks like a decent set of open ended shells/concert tom kit.

Do you still have the bass drum hoops/claws?

No I don't have the bass drum hoops or claws. When originally purchased by my uncle, he opened everything up and who knows what year he let those go. I have been at the drum store most of the day. Picked up all new heads ($180) and some moon gel. I did discuss replacement bass hoops with them.

Going to install heads tomorrow, to tired now. I hope I still have it in me to sell them once I get them all tuned up. Lots of memories sitting behind these. Will update tomorrow and get some pics with new Remo Ambassador's in place.

I probably would have just let it ride with the existing heads you had, most guys will just put what they want on anyway, for instance I pretty much only

use Remo Diplomat coateds for batters... least guys don't have to flip for bottom heads too! :)
