1960s John Grey Autocrat Snare

Hey All,

I have recently purchased a 1960s Autocrat snare. Generally it is in reasonable condition although requiring a deep clean.

The only two problems is that the strainer is defective (it turns all the way round and does not hold the snares tight). Having looked inside other autocrats of this period online, it would seem there is a circular engaging metal piece missing.

The second issue is that one of the grub screw at the bottom of the strainer has been severed.

I would like to keep the drum original. Does anyone have the spare parts I require or any advice?

Hi Andy, I doubt I have those parts but if I can see a photo of whats going on Ill look. Also I DO have a nice clean 1960's John Gray snare stand for cheap!

Many thanks for your response.

I have uploaded a couple of pics of the strainer and an image i found online showing the "engaging piece" that would seem to be missing.

I now have the opportunity to purchase this Rose Morris drum, which "looks" to have an identical strainer:

What do you think? I know Rose Morris took over the John Grey company, but would the strainer be the same? I believe that this drum is vastly inferior to the Autocrat.

How much are you looking for for the stand and where are you based?

I am well not well versed in UK vintage drums, I looked at my parts and I do not have what you need sorry. I could give you the stand for $20 plus shipping! I am clearing it all out this month! thousands of items at crazy prices now! I want it all gone!!!!!!!!!!
