1957 1961 WFL Ludwig White Marine Pearl

Loading...

Hey guys,

Am looking at purchasing a vintage ludwig and found this one for sale.

It is a 3-piece WFL Ludwig WMP from late 50s early 60s. Wondering what you guy's thoughts were on it. And what price is reasonable.

It says, Chrome hardware is pristine, free of pitting. Finish is super white super clean and free of marks or scuffs. Interior date stamped Oct 15 1957, matching 9 X 13 tom with twin factory tone controls top and bottom, clip mount as well as factory installed circular concert mount, 16 X 16 Floor tom pretrial number Ludwig badge nickel hardware, brass hoops all correct tension rods, Ludwig batter and resonant heads, white interior date stamped Aug 14, 1961. All hardware original clean and correct.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers,

Dan

the 9x13 has had an extra tom mount installed on it a later 70's model, everything looks good, what is the price on the kit.? as long as it's not high I say go buy it, these are the famed 3 ply shells and a desirable color also!

The clip mount on the tom and extra rail mount would steer me away from these.

There's something very odd going on with the bass drum. Those rail consolettes, cymbal arm mount, and bass drum spurs all don't look right (especially in relation to the badge). Someone's really monkeyed with this. Extra mount on rack tom. Orphan floor tom from a later era. Actually, the floor tom is probably where the value is in this collection of drums, as is. I would start by offering a fair market price for the three drums based on the value of a 1961 floor tom in WMP with no modifications. Then go from there. The rationale is that it will take somebody with some really good restoration skills (and the time to do it) in order to get the bass and tom looking close to original again. Even still, it would be a restore job which probably would increase the value somewhat but not close to original drums with no mods. Furthermore, this is not a matching kit and it would be harder to resell them as a collection. Offer a price as a package deal for the three drums, but bear in mind that the bulk of the price should be accounted for in that floor tom.

Some Club Date bass drums have the badge to the right of up top.

My thoughts, and I know I am far from an expert on Ludwig, but I wonder if maybe the bass as been "turned" a bit and the spurs/mounts moved as well to accommodate the new rail. In other words, "why not move them legs too Earl, while yer at it."

It would make sense, if someone were adding another rail to the bass to simply move the spurs around so you have them centered on the shell. Although, I have seen older Ludwig bass drums with 2 rails, but the badge was centered.

funny the hideout cymbal stand on bd is the way they sold the new yorker for the 1961 year it shows the disappearing arm that could be correct for early bd

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

How much do you guys reckon this kit is worth? I am outside the states and where I am there is a shortage of vintage drums so I understand and am willing to pay more that if it were purchased in the states but what would you value it at? Would you guys say that it is a worthwhile purchase?

Cheers

this is the one that is on ebay now correct? the asking price is to much for the kit no more than $800.00 and this is to much plus his opening price is to high.

Ok so I bought the kit and am looking forward for it to arrive. I am curious as to what you guys reckon in regards to getting it back to the original setup and as close to original condition as possible (you mention that it seems to be modified). How does one restore a kit with a few minor blemishes here and there as this one looks as though it has?
