Hi,
Here’s another from the past. I got this drum a while back from Gary Asher.
1935- DUPLEX 5 x 14/13 BUTTERSCOTCH SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS MODEL
This is the standard 1930s 5 x 14/13 Duplex Spirit of St. Louis Model. The shell looks to be some type of “Butterscotch Pearl” finish. I couldn’t find any Duplex finish reference so I’m calling it Butterscotch Pearl for lack of a better term. I’m sure there will be a few dissenting opinions out there regarding this finish so fire away. As a comparison to bolster my opinion I’ve included a photo of one of my WMP Spirit of St. Louis snares. The nob hardware is in great shape and polished up nicely. That’s pretty much it on this snare drum except for two notes of interest: 1. You’ll notice that the WMP shell is a different configuration vs. the “Butterscotch Pearl” version in that there are rounded off “brads” attached to the “Butterscotch” shell in comparison to the WMP version. 2. It looks like the strainer on the Butterscotch drum is an older Duplex strainer as compared to the WMP version.
Enjoy!
