Regular heads fit on my 20s Ludwig snares. That strainer is not Ludwig.
1930s snare ... help with ID ??
Do the bearing edge flanges fold clear back to the shell?
The rims on my 20s Ludwig measure 14 1/8". Also, are the snare beds crimped? Yours look a little different than mine. My shell measures 14" almost exactly.

I have VTM2000 over here right now, and he says not crimped.
We are comparing his 10 lug 20's Ludwig to this one, and there are a lot of differences.
I think not Ludwig. It will be tough to nail it down. I have a nice 4x14NOB that I can't figure out what it is.
Plus we think it's an aluminum shell, it's got me out right baffled!
Ok, after many hours and days looking at the drum catalogs, this is what i have come up with...from the 20s-1936 Leedy,Gretsch, and Wurlitzer all used that strainer,Gretsch and Wurlitzer shows the strainer but do not show tube lugs...but in the Wurlitzer--1924-- catalog shows a Leedy Reliance model with tube lugs and that strainer....So iam saying the snare is a Leedy...Mikey
OK, here's what I have come to believe.
The strainer is an incomplete Shur-Grip, which is a 4-point strainer. (Thanks to Rich K. for that )
So, that strainer can not be correct for this shell... there are only two mounting holes.
The strainer that is original to the drum is the Junior Snare Throw-off, a 2-point, which was used on the Slingerland Junior model as well as the Universal and some others for a period of time.
This, I think is a Slingerland Universal model... between 1933 and 1936, which is the period of time the shell went from a 3-bead to a 1-bead and the Junior Snare Throw-off was replaced by the Shur-Grip. This was also a transition time for the Universal from an "solid metal shell" to a "one piece brass" shell. This one is still the "solid metal shell" (aluminum).
I am thinking it's not a Junior, because that model never had tube lugs, just straight tension rods from rim to rim. And, I think the Shur-Grip is not original and the Junior Throw is because there are only two mounting holes in the shell.
This is the best I can figure out from the catalogs and with everyone's help.
Please, someone tell me this makes sense .....LOL !!
I think it is a slingerland?
