1930's Leedy Snare, Bass and Hardware - For Sale or Trade

Loading...

1930's Leedy Reliance kit.

Specs:

26"x12" bass, 14"x5" Brass snare (8 lug), snare stand, 13" china cymbal (looks like it may have been soldered/repaired at some point), 10" cymbal, Leedy bass pedal with attachment to hit a cymbal, Chinese tom holder (no tom), external bass muffler, 1 external bass spur and some other parts. I also have brushes and sticks which are also vintage that I got with the kit, but am not sure if they are of the same era, but they are definitely old, for sure. Pretty much all of the hardware is stamped Leedy.

I replaced 1 or 2 snare hoop clips and 1 or 2 tension rods. I have the original snare wires and can include them for you.

This is a cool kit, but I am not using it other than the snare, and it seems like a waste for me to keep the rest in cases, etc. I will not break up the set.

I am in the DC area and would prefer to deal locally, but am willing to box it up and ship if the seller pays for it along with insurance, of course.

The strainer and everything seems to work well. The bass heads appear to be original, but I don't know for sure. When I reassumbled the bass I put a couple of the lugs on less than straight, but that is a 5 minute fix to make them square up with the hoop.

The hardware has some pitting, marks, etc., but is pretty much rust free. The stuff is old, and I took great care in gently restoring things the right way.

The snare exterior originally was painted like the interior, but I soaked the shell in water to remove some of the dirt, and that allowed water to seep behind the cracks/dings in the paint and it flaked off in places. So, I removed the restof the exterior. The interior paint is solid.

I am happy to email more pictures if someone is seriously interested. and, answer questions, of course.

In addition to selling, I am open to trades for other drum kits or a small boat, if possible, but would need to clear that with the wife for space purposes in the garage.

Is the bass drum muffler metal or wood?

I don't believe there is any wood on the removable external muffler. It has a metal clamp. It has a circular piece of metal with a big round felt attached to it.

Thanks.

Here are some additional pictures. FYI -- I am open to trades for a kit with re-inforcement rings like 1960's Ludwig's for example, or Pearl Custom Z (CZX) drums, Recording Customs, old Gretsch drums,

Slingerland, etc. Let's talk if you have something that might be fair to both of us.

I am getting inquiries to buy individual pieces. My preference is to keep it all together, because I am sentimental that way.

However, if I get a couple of really nice offers for the bass, snare and cymbals, I might consider breaking it up. But, the money has to be enough to overcome my guilt of breaking it up. LoLoLoLoLoLoLoLo

has the snare been sold yet?

I haven't been on the forum recently and just saw your post. The kit is still available.

I have an offer for a trade and an offer to sell, both of which are too low, IMO. The offer for the trade is local, the offer selling is not.

MY preference is to keep everything together. However, if I get an offer that knocks my socks off for the snare, I would consider it at this point.

I really need to create some space in my house and move this on to someone else that can appreciate it's beauty and sound.

Thanks for looking!
