17'' Ludwig Marching Bass drum?

Loading...

Does anyone know anything more about a 17'' Marching bass drum from ludwig? I cant seem to find anything on the subject online. Nor can I find anything about 17'' bass drums in general.

My dad has one, just interested in more details. Perhaps it was custom ordered?

He told me the badge puts it in the 50's I think, forgot when he said exactly. I think he also said the WFL stamping on the claws was made for only a few years.

If you need batter heads for it, I have a few.

Bass drum with wooden hoops? I've got a 12x17 tenor drum, same finish and same badge with nickel plated rims & hardware. The wrap on mine is shot, however. I'm with jonnistix -- let's see some pics!

Another VDF member and I are dickering on that shell right now though, so it may not be mine much longer...

Roy! We would love to see it. I feel teased. How deep is it? Are you considering selling it? If so, DIBS! LoLoLoLo

Here's some pics. I had to scale them way down to post them, anyway to show a good full sized image?

The drum might be for sale once I get a better idea of value, my dad already had the owner of a drum shop he goes to offer 400$. My dad said he wanted to take it to some drum convention.

Well I think my dad has decided to put the drum on ebay in the next few days, if anyone is interested.

I contacted drum appraiser Rob Cook: author of

The Complete History of The Leedy Drum Company

The Rogers Book

The Slingerland Book

The Ludwig Book

George W

ay’s Little Black Book

The Rebeats Calfskin Head Book

He said he didn't include the drum in his book The Ludwig book, because he hadn't heard about 17'' bass drums until just recently himself. Apparently it is very rare. (which I sorta knew when nothing comes up on the internet)

The little images I posted just don't show how nice this drum is. Original everything and it looks like it's brand new, not from the 50's.

I have a link for a lot more pictures of it + they are good sized.

Here's the link, it also has a password which is : ludwig

Enjoy the better quality pictures. No cleaning was done as my dad didn't want to alter it. No yellowing, looks dang near new and its from 55-59.
