Questions for you guys....I gig with a Ludwig "Hollywood" kit (22,12,13,16) and - for a few songs that we do, I'll remove the 12" tom and substitute a timbale. And then switch them back after the song. Not the most efficient way to gig.
On my Reverb feed a week ago, I stumbled upon a S-235 triple tom mount, which is something that I'd never seen nor heard of!
This triple mount is identical to the late 1960s-1970s double tom mount, but with the addition of a centered third mounting post, slightly above and forward of the "left and right" posts. The Ludwig logo at the front of the mount is the common late 1960s-1970s "block" letters decal (black and silver). The stem that fits into the bass drum is 1" in diameter, same as Ludwig's Classic Series tom mount for the "Hollywood" kit.
I received this triple mount yesterday, and mounted the timbale on that centered forward post, and it works great! I can easily reach it. No more switching tom/timbale during a set.
Looking at page 215 of Rob Cook's "The Ludwig Book," there is a photo of the S-235 triple mount listed as a "Standard Series" tom holder from 1968-1969. And it is different from the one I purchased: the stem appears to be perhaps only 3/4" in diameter (too small to fit into a "Hollywood" bass drum mount) and the horizontal top piece is shaped differently.
Questions: What is the part number of the triple tom mount that I purchased? What Classic Line kit was it made for? And when was it introduced and when was it discontinued?
Thanks in advance for your time and effort in responding.
