14" 8-lug Stick Saver Hoops

Loading...

Hi all!

I'm in need of a pair of 14" 8-lug stick saver rims to complete a 14x14 Slingerland floor tom restoration. It's a 60s drum so I would love to get my hands on a COB pair... but I'd gladly purchase a COS pair if someone has a set in good condition to sell, since the COB hoops seem nearly impossible to find these days. (PS I'm located in Montreal, Canada)

Thanks!

Hi!

COB hoops are definitely getting rare—I feel your pain. I don’t have a pair myself, but I’d recommend checking with some of the vintage drum Facebook groups or even reaching out to Maxwell Drums in the U.S.; they sometimes have leads on harder-to-find parts.

Hi - thanks for your reply! I actually did reach out to Maxwell's, they unfortunately don't have, but good idea about FB groups. I'll keep looking and might just cave and buy a set of the Drum Factory Direct stick saver repros.

On that note... I wonder if anyone has any thoughts about the differences between the original sticksavers and the DFD repros. Anyone know how they compare in terms of profile / thickness / weight? I know that they differ slightly around the tension rod holes.

Hi Aaron,

Would you consider slightly worn COS hoops if they’re structurally sound, or are you specifically looking for ones in excellent condition to match the rest of the drum?

I would definitely consider a COS pair! I have no problem with some wear, assuming they're in round and flat! I wouldn't say the drum is in "excellent" condition, but it's a nice player-grade drum so I'd actually prefer an authentic vintage pair to a modern repro. I was hoping to find a COB pair but I'm starting to think that's a bit too optimistic. Can you send me some photos of the hoops in question?

Thanks for reaching out!
