I had a '67 Double kit early 70's... Have posted pics before.. most of my memories of the kit are captured in B&W.. A few months ago our guitar player posted this pic which I had never seen before.. Lead singer helping me out with the lug in.. Had forgotten how just how much that kit sparkled when near new....

Cheers

This here is probably my rarest Ludwig. I got this one last year at a antique sale for $45. Yes $45 :p

I honestly had no idea what it was until I came here. 1927/29 transition BB. You'll notice the strainer is of the early model and the floral pattern of the later.

It is a little beat up but my god is this drum pretty. I have it on display and it will always get attention. This is my gold standard in how a snare drum can be an expression. I love my red WFL but this is on a different level.

NO YOU CANNOT BUY IT!! lol.

These are 3x of my Ludwig's. The Mahogany Mist one is from the 80's, Thermogloss is 1978 and the Green Lacquer is from the 90's. The Green and Mahogany have the 6-ply shells (very heavy) and the power toms typical of the day. All great fun to play.

I'd love to pick up a Black Panther. I have a floor tom, but still searching for the rest. Nice kit!

Hoh-lee! that wet-sanding really brought that psych red kit back to life!

Also, the vistalite kit does seem to be pictured...?

There's more than the wet sanding that was in that restoration. I haven't updated the restoration post until i find a badge for the bass drops rum. And yes. That's the red vistas in the darker pic. Just without the 18. Here's another all together.

Yes I see I read your initial post incorrectly, where you clearly stated the 18 [not the whole kit] was not pictured. On to the next world problem...:)

I'd buy that Psych Red kit in a second if I had the dough...

I don't subscribe to the 80's Luddies are crap thought. I love mine! Maybe because I grew up in this era, and was paying attention to these kits more then (Like holding onto your childhood) :-)

Your kit is excellent!

Thanks Gar and ncl knight-i thought mine may have been lost in an unwanted time warp as i know the power toms aren`t desired from collectors these days and may never be...But they have that early Luddy 80`s blue olive badge history to them,so i guess they belong be it (good or bad).

Keepin it alive, here's my Club Dates with a fresh application of Minwax Poly Shades "Mission Oak" stain...well a couple coats actually.

Last week this kit had the homemade silver glass glitter wrap on it. Well I still have the wrap rolled up on stand-by, but thought I'd work with the mahogany since it is original and is a better look for the project I recently embarked on.

I've really enjoyed looking through this thread. Soooooo many amazing drums and kits - some real eye candy !! You guys rock ! (and swing)

Here's my 2 cents worth. A 67 Burgundy sparkle kit I bought new for about $350 with hardware - been trying to locate the original receipt.
A 60s black lacquer 7 piece kit I bought from a friend of mine who had done a wonderful refinish and restoration back in the 80s.

I only have 2 kits. Both are Ludwig of course. My favorite is a set of Ludwig Classics from the late 70s - early 80s. This kit was left on the side of the road as trash. A guy saved them from the landfill. I bought them from him and restored them in tangerine glass glitter. Best sounding kit I've ever owned.
A '78 LM402; and a pic of my recently resto-modded green sparkle 3-ply kit.

These Club Dates look great! A couple quick questions: are those extra clamp-on spurs? Do you always use the bass-mounted cymbal arm that way? Do you always hang your rack tom like that?
I really like seeing how other drummers set up their kits. Thanks........marko

Thanks! I do always [for now] have everything mounted as shown. The clamp-on spurs save the originals from all that stress while keeping the front up, even with pedal attached. The original spur under the tom does provide some extra anti-tilt. For now I'm liking the tom low and more to the left.

Great kits especially lovin that burgundy sparkle...

Mitch - with that Mission Oak stain your kit has a very classy look.

Re: This is the Display Your Ludwig Drum Thread

Thanks Gecko and Jay. Truth be told I glued the homemade sliver glitter wrap to these shells, didn't like the results, and now they are headed back to stained mahogany as pictured. Just have to strip off that carpet adhesive...yes I know I am insane.

But meanwhile I acquired an actual silver sparkle Club Date kit, so these shells will be sold for re-wrap or I may keep them and experiment with a severe relic look - dark mahogany with ["leftover"] midnight navy blue crackled paint here and there and a thick layer of checked/crazed lacquer...if I can make that happen...

Here's my new 6-ply, 8x14 snare drum wrapped in Deep Blue Glass from Jammin Sam- excellent wrap and service by the way.
The drum was purchased on ebay and started as an 8-lug, 10x14 concert tom with small classic lugs and clip mounts. I cut it down, gave it new bearing edges and re-drilled it for 10 lugs, strainer, butt, and tone control. The drum had so many plugged holes that I decided to give it the granitone treatment. Most of the hardware is from the 70s or 80s.
It's a very woody, deep sounding drum. I'm pleased with it.
Hope everybody has a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah.

Here’s my Ludwigs. I picked these up on an auction site for $350 (no hardware or cymbals). The drums are all date stamped 1960 with transition badges. I cleaned them up, replaced the heads on the bass and snare, and started adding hardware and cymbals to make a playable set. The sizes are 14x22, 16x16, 9x13, and 5x14. As you can see, a Roger’s Swiv-o-matic tom holder was added at some point and as a result the bass drum had numerous holes. I filled them with Elmer’s wood filler with a little green coloring added so the holes almost disappear.
