Australian Collectors Group
Hello
I'm pleased to join you on this forum. I am based in Perth, Western Australia, and I'm interested to learn whether there are any networks or clubs for vintage drum lovers and collectors in WA, Australia or the Oceania region. Can any members direct me to a site, link or contact to get me going, please? If there isn't a network, is anyone interested in helping me form one? Happy drumming! |
Calling Australian Collectors!
Hello!
We have 3 or 4 collectors that are members here and I have met a few offline. So I wonder if there is a large enough group to start a group. Then again any group more then 2 would work. We can make this a sticky thread and see how many Australian members respond David |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
That sounds like a great idea, David!
If anyone out there is interested, please let us know here, on the forum. |
Re: Australian Collectors Group

Cheers |

Australian Collectors Group
Hi there.
I'm Rob from Sydney. I got directed here from the moderators in the States. I've just ordered a custom made Brady kit from WA. 10 weeks delivery time.... needless to say... very excited. But... my wife doesn't like my idea of keeping my Ludwig kit... I suggested we buy a new house with an extra room to house my drums etc... she kinda did not like that idea. Anyway... I want to sell my Ludwig kit... the badges suggest the kit is from late 70's to mid 80's. Anyway... happy to talk anything drumming... and the idea is a good one to start the group in OZ. Cheers Rob |

Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hello,
I used to live in Perth. When I left for the U.K. many years ago I left my Rogers Big R XP8 with a friend who disappeared off the face of the earth. My fault I know. So I guess it's floating around W.A. somewhere. It's cherry wood colour. The good news is I now have a 60's holiday rogers I acquired through this site. Good luck with the Collectors group. Next time I'm in town I'll look you up. Blonkins. |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Newbie in Sydney...
Hi all... Pommie (please don't hit me) living in Sydney here...Just wanted to say hi to the Australian contingent of the forum. Any of you Aussies out there and on here...get in touch maybe we can help each other out. Anyway take it easy and happy drumming Tony |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
I'm not an Australian but I do think a new message board for you guys is diffenitly a good idea. I mean you can talk drums until your blue in the face and it will help us Americans as well if one of you guys come up with a new way to fix a snare or other drum you can let us know. Oh and BTW I kind of have a soft spot for Aussies I worked with them when I was a young Marine.

Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hey Grefal, I spotted your posts about your lovely blue sparkle Rogers set and the pic of your Powertone snare. I have the exact same Rogers Cleveland set and also with the Powertone and Dynasonic snares. I guess my kit is the Australian brother to yours. Only difference is my set has the 14" floor tom (20,12,14) I have all the matching hardware too, I've never seen or heard of another kit like it here in Australia. Any other Aussies here have Rogers drums they'd like to show us?
Cheers. |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hey Josh ...would you post pics of your kit? Used to play a lovely old Rogers when I was in the UK...had a great sound.

Righto, lets see if this will work.....
This is my Rogers Holiday kit made in Cleaveland Ohio around 1965. It's a 20,12,14 Buddy Rich Headliner set with an early 7 line Dyna-sonic snare shown. Since these pics I have added a matching blue sparkle Powertone snare, lovely. I purchase all the matching hardware seperately. I took these shots during a recording session in 2008. I love playing this kit, sounds a LOT bigger than the sizes suggest. Any one else care to share pics of their US drums in Oz? |

Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hi Dave from Perth, I'm Steve from Fremantle , this is my first reply as I'm a brand new member, I'd be happy to join an Australian Collectors Group , I've just completed my first restoration of a vintage Prem and am always keen to hear what else is out there and what old kits have made there way here over the years.
I've tried to attach a before and after shot of the kit but its failed , i'll give it another go sometime. |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hi Steve from Fremantle and welcome to the forum. There is a sticky thread in the General Questions and Topics forum on how to shrink photo's down to the rights size so you can post them here. It works well using photo shop. Pictures need to be 100K or less. Hope this helps.
Lets see some more vintage drums in Oz! |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hi all!
Grant here from Melbourne. So at least that is now representation from most states! Keen to join a collectors group as I have collected tonnes of vintage items over the past years! So bloody Oath!! Feel free to include me in when arranging! Crickey! (Ok, enough of the crap aussie sayings!) Grant! |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Just wanted to drop in and say hi guys! Im from melbourne and recently bought my first vintage kit. Just an early 70's pearl but sounds great and for a kit that needs to be packed up and moved a lot it suits me just fine! Ive also got a rogers powertone snare that i got when i was in LA recently.
Ill post pics when im not slacking off at work! |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
So anyone here score that champagne sparkle Gretsch round badge kit last week on e-bay? It was in Sydney, i got outbid Violin
|
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hey fellow Aussies...just dropping in to say hi and see what the 'locals' have been up to recently?
So any fantastic bargains, cool stuff , refurbs?? I'm still searching in Sydney for a re-chromer to help complete a refurb of a late 50's Olympic snare (that won't completely bankrupt me) ...hopefully a new strainer for this will be in the post from the states soon. Then I have to set to on an old MIJ kit that I want to get up to speed as a practice kit... the list goes on... Anybody want to chirp in?? HappyDrumming Tony |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Nothing new from me apart from from a new protection racket case for my 20" Rogers, overpriced and not very exciting. Just sitting back waiting for the right kit(s) to show up. I figure everytime I resist buying something it's that little bit extra I can put towards the kit I really want.
Let me know if anyone has anything Gretsch, Slingerland or Camco in red, champagne or green sparkle. Still kicking myself for missing that champagne sparkle Gretch in Sydney! cheers. |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Hi Guys,
Who amongst you have shipped in kits from the states and who did you use? Get a good deal on shipping rates? I'm interested in bringing in a kit but the shipping rates quoted are almost half of the cost of the kit itself. Any advice? Cheers Tony |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
am in sa, play a gretsch broadcaster kit from 70's, have just been given a sweet little yamaha kit, have owned, star, hayman(stolen) rogers,

Re: Australian Collectors Group
do any of you guys here in oz have or know of any vintage yamaha bits around the place, can get stuff out of uk/usa but freight is a killer nnd just blows the budget, i've noticed any 60/70's no name kits or more budget models have similar bits.
|
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Great stuff! Our own Australian "vintage drums" club!
Lets keep in touch. Cheers Grant |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Cheers for the info Josh . I recently had a cpl of kits I was very interested in shipping over but the quotes I received to ship just blew the cost out of the water. Damn hard to find any decent Vintage kits at 'decent' prices over here..and when they do pop up seems like anybody with any idea jumps in!
It's good to see people jumping on the Aussie side of the forum... Keep in touch guys. Happy Drumming Tony |

Re: Australian Collectors Group

Re: Australian Collectors Group
I was lucky enough to buy the Camco kit from Antipodes. Great kit, i'll post a pic soon just for fun. Just want to publically send thanks and appreciation for a great transaction. The seller went far beyond the expected and personally delivered the drums to Melbourne from Sydney, saving me any postage costs and even threw in some extras. Great guy and a wealth of knowledge on all things Camco, highly recommend to anyone who may have any future dealings. I love how vintage drum guys look after each other.
Group Hug The Camco's look and sound amazing, nestled next to the Ludwigs and the Rogers in my drum room...... |
Re: Australian Collectors Group
Well done on buying the Camco Josh, I talked to Antipodes about it but unfortunately my funds are a little low at the minute so no luck for me. I'm hoping to catch up with Antipodes for a chat soon. Enjoy the kit....
