Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
4 Attachment(s)
Seller claims it's a "blue sparkle vintage pre serial number Ludwig snare".
Sorry don't have pic of the badge yet. |
Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
No expert, but it has differences for sure from my 1965 Pioneer..Markings are different and mine has a baseball bat damper..And my throw off has different markings and is a different style..May mean nothing..Maybe it is a later version than mine

Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
Thanks, just found out it doesn't have a badge. Geez, who removes those?
Oh well, can't be worth much more than $100 now right? |
Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
Definitely is a Pioneer... circa late 1968 to early 70's. Too bad about the missing badge. Pioneers usually sound great.
EDIT: See subsequent posts below....This drum may be a JazzFest if it is determined to have 8 lugs as opposed to the 6-lug Pioneer model. |
Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
The badges are not hard to find..No it will not be original to the Snare..But it would make no difference to me if I replaced it..If it is on Ebay or something..It will sell for quite a bit more than 100.00 I bet..

Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
The inside view photo, showing the tension lug nuts, seems to indicate a Jazzfest (8 lugs) versus a Pioneer (6 lugs). But as O-Lugs pointed out, it appears to be late '68 to early 70s vintage.

Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
Marty I think you're right on second inspection. If it's 8 lugs then it's a JazzFest.

Re: Is this a Ludwig Pioneer?
Also if it's preserial numbered it's not suppose to have the first gen p 85.
