Vintage Ludwig 5x14 Nickel Over Brass Identification!

1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone could tell me what year this snare drum is and possibly the value of it. The friend that gave it to me said it is from the 1920's but wasn't sure what year. It has a nice warm fat sound for a shallow snare.

There are some very small stress cracks in the finish here and there and a few small dents as well. The lugs and hoops are in good shape and the snare throw still works good.

Or is this a snare drum that I should just part out? I hate to do that since it is all original. Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Randy

STEP AWAY FROM THE SNARE DRUM AND DO NOT PART THIS DRUM OUT!
You have a late 1920s L & L 5 x 14 nob Standard Model. That strainer is called the Professional Strainer and was around from 1928-1939 +/-.
Is the shell a 2-pc. shell or a one-pc. shell? Those are great player drums so enjoy it.

I think it's a 2pc shell. Is the seam right at the bottom of the bead? How much do you think the drum is worth? Also would you be interested in it? I don't play anymore due to severe tinnitus. I just teach now and can't be around any loud music.

Many would be interested at the right price. That snare is valuable. Close to 4 digits, if i am not mistaken.

I sold one about three years ago for $800, yours I think is a little older than mine was.
You can get a nice buck for it but, they are great sounding drums and finding them in that condition for a good price is hard.
I regret selling mine every time I see one!

This is easily a $1,000 instrument as is - you scored a real winner here. Looks like it's in amazing condition as well!
