Old school flat sided lugs

Loading...

This question is for the hardcore Sonor geeks out there. I am trying to build my knowledge on my Sonor kit, so any help that anyone can offer me is greatly appreciated...

I have an 80's Phonics Plus kit, with the flat sided tuning lugs. I was wondering if I could swap them out for newer, round lugs. If I can, what series am I going to have to get them from? Am I going to have to order them from the Sonor factory? Or can I get aftermarket lugs?

They are attached by a single bolt and washer.

SONOR tunning rods are metric thread. SONOR does have the square head T=rods on newer drums and snears, I`ll look into it and get back to ya. If you want.....

SONOR.com...go to contacts,..then select the request E-mail tab,..write to them and they will get back to you real quick cuz I just did it.

The lengths/withs, are what might be a issue !!

Thats exactly what I thought. I brought a couple of loose ones to a used/vintage shop around my area, they didnt have anything remotely close to them, and said they would need to be ordered through the manufacturer. My T-rods on my bass are round, but all the ones on my toms/snare are flat sided, with the round slotted head.

Right off hand as well, I think they're either going to be 2" or 2 1/2"...but metric, im not sure of the mm....I will measure each length I have and convert them into mm/cm. Thanks Oddball.

When I said Metric, I mean the threading on the rod, Standard American threads are far apart, Metric threads are close together, they take more turns to tighten.

The flat on your rods is to co-iside with the trianglular washer on the cast lug, it fits the round into the triangle but you have to tourque it to turn them. You want these lock-tite lug system on your drums. the other ones back off from play`n and constantly need ajusting. SONOR E-mailed me a spec sheet on them. The only difference between my lugs and yous is, mine have the small logo with the long stick, and yours have the large logo with the small stick.

This is a set of mid 80s` phonics (missing the 14") the same color as mine, every thing is the same except the stamped logo on the hardware, and my aireals are concert toms 13" 14" 15" 16",....is this the set you have ??
