Raja Turko and old A clone, help?

Loading...

Last month a got two cymbals from my school. They where found in a storage room late last year, and a highschool class wanted to do some ''Science experiments'' on themSailing2. Our music teacher grabbed them, and next thing you know I walk into the music class. I practicly jumped to the ceiling, because of the beautiful old dirty cymbals on a desk. After about five months of bugging my music teacher to the point of insanity, I talked her out of nailing them on the wall as a decoration, and I walked home carrying a heavy cymbal bagExcited So yeah, anyway, they sound great IMO and I'm thrilled to have them. I'm wondering what they are and any help would be greatly appreciated!

This one is a 20'' ride, and as far as i'm concerned it's either a 70's A Zildjian or a darned good knock-off. Everything about it screams Avedis Zildjian, but there's no marking on it. No stamp, or even a faint outline of ink. Trust me, I've looked and looked an looked, and there's nothing. My first guess is that it's a hollow logo, with the ink faded/cleaned off. It's thick and heavy, with a great strong crash, and a piercing bell. It's pretty dry.

Here's the bottom:

This is the most mysterious, and the one I am most exited about. It measures 21 3/4'', an it's stamped ''Raja Turko''. I couldn't get a decent pic of the stamp, as I'm no photagrapher, but I'll keep trying. It's hand hammered, and is a fantastic, smokey, dark, jazz ride. I absolutely love it. It's very crashable, and it has a really short sustain. A great bell, too. It's very thin, and flat. It's warped all around the edges, wich doesn't really affect the sound.

Here's a bottom pic:

And an attempt to show the hammering:

Please excuse the pics, some of the yellowish lighting doesn't do them justice, but you get the idea. As I said, I will try again to take a picture of the Raja Turko stamp. Both of these cymbals are just on the border lign of keyholing, and i'm very glad I saved them in time.

Any information would be great.

Forget the ink stamp, are you saying there is no stamp impressed into the cymbal's surface? You seemed more focused on the lack of an ink stamp rather then a stamp in the metal itself. Sometimes a stamp can be missing, or it was not impressed very deeply and has worn away over time. Look carefully on the surface with a magnifying glass. You might find some remains that will be useful

I wasn't focusing on ink, I was just saying that there was no ink and no stamp in the metal. Well, rephrase, because I looked with a magnifying glass, and I found an Avedis Zildjian stamp, and just below it some faint black ink, that says ''MEDIUM PING''. It's terribly hard to make out everything, but i'm sure the last three letters in the second word are ING, and what looks to be a P completes the word, PING. I concluded that It's a 70's thin stamp. I also have the matching set of hi-hats that belonged to the school, and they have the same stamp, and marked ''MEDIUM THIN'', in the same ink as the ride. Thanks for the advice, I feel kinda blind right now.DOH Well, I guess I've reunited a cymbal setup!
