Spizzichino Cymbals

Loading...

i watched a vid of Roberto commenting on a Spizz ride that Brian Blade had.

he said when he went up and played it he did not recognize the sound.

although he knew he made it, he could not pin-point it.

he said that it was "dry and flat sounding" and then said something about Brian playing the cymbal for a few years.

so maybe (like most new cymbals) they change with age?

I read he was getting blanks from China for awhile but discontinued using them several years back.

Maybe the duds are those?

I shopped at a drum store in Florida back when I lived there. The gent had purchased most all of Pearl's back stock of some of the birch and maple kits. Didn't like those. But, he had some Spizz cymbals on the rack amidst the others. I played them and thought they were cheap sounding. I ran into a couple of Spizz cymbals a few years later. I still thought they sounded cheap. I dismissed them after that.

There was a period where Wuhan made some cymbals under the "Spizz" name. I'm guessing that might be what you came across. The Wuhan cymbals are mentioned briefly on the "history" page on spizzichinocymbals.com.

Hi, don't know if these were Wuhan but had the Spizz brand and were I think B20, dark sounding but not so great, from a previous thread.

The dates are about right in the timeline for the icky Spizz to be Chinese blanks. That would be a reasonable conclusion.

I love the bronze he's using for the past couple of years. That's very nice. I may have to hunt a ride down.

i find it amusing that you can get hats/crash/ride straight from him between 700-900.

but any time i see any for sale (ebay/drumstore) they're always around 900-1200.

how dumb do people think drummers are?

There are wannabes right here that have made a career choice in trying to pin down that variable.
