Cost to Re-Wrap

Loading...

Just curious what it would cost to re wrap a 5 piece kit with standard sizes? Say 22" 16" 13" 12" sizes.

Interested how much to hire it done and to do it yourself.

Let me here your stories.

Cheers!

It takes 3.5 sheets of wrap to rewrap a standard 5 piece kit. There are several different types of wrap that cost various prices. You can buy it jammin sam's or precision drums, There are various other suppliers out there. The glue costs $27.00 plus shipping from precision, unless you use sam's tape method. There is the $59.00 wrap on ebay, but that is not heavy duty enough for drums. it's pretty much like contact paper and has a self adhesive back on it. You will at least need to buy grommets to replace you badges. You will also need a grommet tool. The best grommet tool I have found is from myoldkentucky drums on ebay fro about $39.00 There are many other expenses that may come up also. You may want to replace tensions rods, t rods, claws, rims, heads, brackets, snare wires, badges, wood hoop inlays, lugs, A lot of these parts aren't available new and it takes a lot of waiting and patience and research to acquire oem vintage parts. There guys on here that do this professionally and you can send yours to precision drum. I hear they do a excellent job.

Sam will try yo convince you to use the hibond tape method for installing the wrap. You can do what ever you like, But I prefer to glue the wrap on solid. This is more like the factories did it, although, I have removed original wrap form premiers that were installed with the tape method. The wrap was splitting and falling off of the shells, thus the reason I dont believe in the tape method, but if you want to save the original wrap this might be a good option.

Figure 1 hour labor each for toms and snare, and 2-3 for bass if the shells are already stripped and prepped for new glue. Local shop here charges $45/hr. You can prep the shells yourself and save some money.

Prepping is definitely to most difficult part of the whole process. Polishing lugs, hardware, and rims, cleaning tension rods and lug screws, and removing glue and filling spots. If all that is done it would take less than a hour to wrap a shell.

Wrapping is the fun part!! lol
