I have had ZERO luck using Craigslist in the past for selling anything with a dollar amount. However, anytime I needed to get rid of something for FREE, ads I've placed under free items are usually very successful and gone within hours of placing the ad.
Other than getting rid of stuff that I would have eventually thrown away anyway, I find Craigslist utterl useless for selling drums, etc in my area. They all usually want something for nothing.
...and, if they have your e-mail address, they can figure out your password, and use IT to spam!
As L-D says above, I am as well pretty savvy, but recently I have one of my email addresses hacked twice. I have changed my password and have also set up an alternate email address to use exclusively for C/L ads. This way there is no chance my friends are going to get spammed again. For instance if you are a gmail or yahoo user, set up a hotmail account, that way you can keep it open when you have something for sale and can also keep open your gmail or yahoo account. Yahoo does not allow you to be logged into two accounts at the same time, unless they in different names.
How on earth are they gonna figure out your email password from you supplying just the email address? That's a new one on me, and I'm rather computer saavy....unless you give them your password I don't see a legit way they could get your password.
There is software that they use, just like the software they use to send you the e-mail in the first place. It doesn't generate if from your e-mail address, persay, but it does generate passwords until it finds yours, or even hacks into your computer and looks into your typed history...I don't know HOW it does it, but it does. Seen it happen to multiple friends...

This seems to be the way that craigslist is heading. I have had *minimal* luck selling stuff lately. It's just enough to give me hope and keep trying. I sell stuff eventually, just gotta find the right buyer at the right time...
I cleaned out my garage Saturday preparing to restore the luddys i found on CL. my son and his friend came over yesterday and took 20 yrs worth of junk out of my attic. He hauled off a pick up load of stuff he wanted. i put very few things back in the attic and I piled the rest out in the driveway, i mean a pile bigger than my yukon XL. Put a ad on CL under free and it was gone within 2 hours.

I also have an app on my phone that notifies me any time a drum is listed on CL. Its very cool.
I guess I've been lucky with CL. Bought and sold a lot of snare drums and drum equipment. No scammers yet.
I think I can be pretty sure that if I were to put something on Craigslist, and I got a response to that, it ought to be a scammer. Since we have a whopping 6 ads in the musical instruments category for our entire country :D.

Wow. I guess it hasn't caught on in The Netherlands yet. We'll get maybe a hundred a day in the Dallas area. More guitar items than drums but still quite a selection.
Well.....I decided to post a couple of things from my collection for sale on the ole' CL today....exactly ONE HOUR after posting the ads, I receive an email asking if "the above item is still for sale?"......umm, no. I sold it to a guy a half an hour ago who sent me an even better email asking if I would take five bucks for it! :rolleyes:
How stupid do these scam artists think we are? DOH
BTW, that was total sarcasm and the drums are still for sale...:p
