Criag list scammers

Lately I have noticed alot more scammers on CL. I can spot em now a mile away, sometimes when I'm bored, and I get one telling me they want my item, (but don't even mention what it is) and they say they want to send me a check, please give them all my personal info, I might say, "yes, I want to sell it to you, but it would be easier for me if I just gave you my bank account number, and you can just withdraw the finds yourself at your convenience, to save time" that shuts em up, I wish these people would give it up.

One thing that just happened to me, which I can't figure out, my aol account was loaded with a bunch of "fail to deliver" messages, (like 80) and I got a message from aol saying I was in violation of the user policy, I'm sure it was a legit message from aol, but I can;'t figure out how all this spam got through, now my wife wants to ban me from selling on CL...I can't win. so I guess the scammers ultimately beat me......

Those scammers are a pain, but they will continue to have "intrest in itum bieng sold". I believe that you have a good handle on this and you should continue to list on your local CL. Don't let them beat you. People will try and scam no matter where you list an ad. Myself, when I get a scammer answering an ad, I don't even reply to it unless I'm in a bad mood, then I'll play with them a little bit.

Slingy, keep the faith in the good people out there and continue to buy & sell vintage drums.

Cheers

The latest scam is when they type a word from your ad, and put a question mark by it.

"Snare?"

-or-

"$300?"

I've gotten plenty of "iz thus itumn stehl fahr sayl?" messages. I usually say something like "leave your phone number in your message or I'll think you're a spambot and won't reply". I wish there were a way to filter out the low-ballers...

The thing that makes me bitterly resent these kind of people is that their success normally comes at the expense of people who are older or through some unfortunate circumstance have become vulnerable to deception. It is the people who are naive, trusting or unsure of themselves.

These scammers are truly scum.

How on earth are they gonna figure out your email password from you supplying just the email address? That's a new one on me, and I'm rather computer saavy....unless you give them your password I don't see a legit way they could get your password.

Yep got a few of those recently......I always check to see what the email address is that its sent from. USUALLY, if its a gmail, hotmail, or yahoo email address, it is usually a scammer. Not always, but usually....
