Slingerland mahogany help

Here's one that is fairly average for what's out there on restained kits. This is at MusicGoRound. Do a search on ebay for what an untampered-with kit will go for. Quite a bit more than this.

I didn't mention value. Since you did, it will plummet if you strip and sand. Generally speaking, if you sell or trade to someone who would appreciate it, you would not be in the set of potentials. No one inferred that you don't appreciate the kit. Just that, if you sell/trade it, try to make sure it's to someone who would give it the love. No need for a defensive posture. I'm not attacking. I'm just bummed that the kit will be ruined ... in my opinion.

what My forum brother is trying to tell you, any Modifications made to an original vintage Instrument are usually a detriment, When I gave you the advice on how to strip a shell the ones I'm using had already destroyed finish no saving them, your is what I would describe as charter not flawed finish!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I think the exterior ply of your kit is maple.

I own a Buddy Rich 22,13,16 with matching snare in that same finish. My serial numbers are 54xxx-ish. Yours is pretty close to mine. That would make yours around 71 or 72. You've got a very sweet kit. It just needs a nice cleaning and wax. That's really about it. My kit had some scratches, too. If you use the right stuff, you can really make 'em look nice. Gouges can be minimized. It's just a matter of doing it properly.

Value ??? who knows. I can say that a complete kit like mine went for over 1500 this year. Yours is a more common config, BUT in a desirable finish ... so ... who knows.

Bottom line - if you sand, you will most likely lose hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars of resell value. How much??? Who knows what the actual value would be. I don't. I CAN tell you with a high degree of confidence that if you sand, you're looking at getting a couple of hundred for the kit. That's about it.

Please, this is your kit. Do what you will. I'm just speaking my heart. If it offends ya, ignore this old man. No harm, no foul.

Either way, continue to enjoy the kit.

I will definitely try to clean it up as best I can. We'll see how it turns out but I want it to look good. I'm not offended, it's hard to catch someones tone in type. I'd like to find out exactly what the kit is before I do anything. I keep finding out and hearing different things. I thought it was a 1976 solo or new rock kit.

It's about a 72 or 73 ... either New Rock or Modern Solo - - - depending on what hardware originally came with the kit. It was ordered with the 22 inch bass option. Sweeeeeeet kit. If you EVER want to sell it or trade it ... I'm here.

I'll clean it up and keep it for now. At the moment I need money, So I'm not going to sell it because I won't spend it on another kit. I'll keep it in mind though.
