Neil Peart's agogo bells???

electricitDoes anybody know how Neil mounted his agogos on his 70's kits?!?!?! I am not sure when he stoped using them, but they are present on all his slingy's. I have no idea how he got them to point outwards like that. I practicly turned the internet upside down looking for answers, and this is the best of what I found:

[Attachment: 20325] If you zoom in this pic quite a bit, you can see one agogo sticking out, but the mounting system isn't visible.

[Attachment: 20326] This time you can see the agogo sticking clear as day. Again, no mount.

Now watch closley near the end of this vid. It closes in right on his cowbell tree, and on the agogos, but ofourse blurs out just at the right moment. So yeah, again, no !@#$%?& mount! Falling Do

So, anybody have an idea? Anybody? Hmmmm

I would check with the guys that put together the Neil Peart Slingerland Kit

Here is a shot of that section of their kit.

This was an original kit that they restored. I know they put a lot of research in the kit and all of the hardware.

Here is a shot of the mount, it is still hard to see.

Thanks! That's the best example of the mount I have ever seen. I have been looking at this kit alot too, because it seems very authentique and true to the original chromey. They did a great job. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out, but it looks like they heated the bar, bent it to shape then welded it on to a peice of metal with a wing bolt threaded through it, thus making mountable agogo bells!

The guy that did the restoration runs a Neil Peart Drumsticks web site.

His name is Michael. A real nice guy, so email him some questions and then let us know what he says so the history is set.

Hello Michael! My name is Sebastian and I am a 12 year old drummer and a big Rush fan, and of course a Neil Peart fan! First of all you've got a great website going! Keep it up, it's really great! Also I am utterly blown away by the restoration of ''Chromey''!!! Incredible attention to detail. No one could've done a better job. Actually, I had a few questions to ask about the kit, and if you could get back to me it'd be swell. 1. How did you mount the agogo bells on the cowbell tree? I've looked at many pictures/videos of Neil's kits but I can't find a direct picture of the mounting system. 2. What brand are the temple blocks used on the set? My first guess would be Slingerland, but then again Neil is known to have used gon bops and I believe LP? Also, what are the dimensions of the blocks? Anyway, they sound great and of course look spectacular, just like Neil's! 3. Yes, yet another question about mounting, but how did you go about mounting the tri-bells? Also What brand did you use? Just answer what you can if possible, take your time, and thank you for providing all the information, and extreme dedication as a Rush fan! -Seb

That's an LP mount. You can probably find it in Interstate Music's catalog. And by the way, seems like there's no way that these drums are old enough to be vintage - lol!

Temple blocks were the LP variety which were very durable especially when stacked up against the Ludwigs!

I don't think it's LP. It doesn't add up. I have never seen an agogo mount that mounts them horizontaly, and not verticly. I don't know, but it looks pretty custom to me, and i've been on a few NP fan sites and they can't seem to figure it our either. Anyway, I searched around and I found this current LP mount.

As for the blocks being LP, do you have any idea of what era these are from? Well, the obvious would be 70's, but i'ts hard to tell. Plus, if you compare them to Neil's at a closer angle, they're not exactly the same. So, are they LP'? Were Neil's LP's? Who knows? Hmmm, details, details, details!

Ok, so look at the video above ''Neil Peart's Chromey'' , and pause it at around 1:13, then look at Neil's blocks. The slits in the blocks look much higher on Neil's then they are on the replica. Hmmmm See what I mean? No? Have I already lost it???? DOH
