From jonnistix

I know there are those that will come by and snicker at my apparent waste of time and energy. To those, the ones that think this is huge waste, I want you to know that the amount of love, sweat, blood and yes, a few tears and choice words, far outweighs any negative comments you could ever make, on this thread or any other. The reasons are many, but when these young minds, young hands...youthful wonder and the sounds of sheer joy hit my ears, it is more satisfying than you could ever know. And since many of the very same people who denegrate these drums as inferior and sub-standard and any other derogatory comments you have, I want to remind you that you, yes many of the very same ones that are so fast to trash, you likely played these as your first kit, and you will never know how absolutely fantastic these old vintage drums can sound because you had no clue what you were doing 40 years ago. And since you are so advanced in you honors today to ever stoop so low as to take up the sticks and play one of these kits, well, they sound amazing. And I didn't have to spend a fortune on them. Nor do they require kid gloves to handle them. These are the real deal, players drums, for open minds, youthful hands, strength in places you have forgotten you have. And these kids will have a far deeper apprecitation of American vintage drums than you could ever imagine, if they ever get the opportunity to play one, since they are all headed to lock ups and museums and climate controlled storage rooms. This is the only chance many young people today will ever have to play a vintage drum kit, of any description. And they will be able to tell their friends they have a one of a kind, custom vintage drum set, built with love.

Your imagination is running rampant.

Take a breath.

The "Only American Made Drums Are Worth Having Police" are not out to get you.

You do excellent work, for excellent causes, rest assured.

No one is shouting "firewood", unless something got deleted.

Keep up the good work, and try not to be so concerned with what others think.

I hate seeing you get so worked up sometimes... it's got to be stressful.

Peace and love, bro...............flower

Wow, what an amazingly selfless thing to do, Jonnistix. I recently spent many hours doing a thorough cleaning/detailing of my kit and all the while kept thinking a) I could never do all this work if it weren't my own kit and b) I ain't ever doing this again! So I know the time and effort all this takes and I absolutely admire you for doing it. The look on the children's faces must be priceless and must make it all worthwhile.

Fantastic job Jonnie, both on the kit, and the donation of time. Also, here's a big Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2 for seeing the potential in the drums, and the mind of what may be the future of our craft. Or heck, maybe just letting someone have the opportunity to have a lot of fun.

Funny, I just noticed that the last 3 posts giving Jonni the thumbs up were all from Canadians. Guess that stereotype about us Canadians being polite must be true. Hmm, I better clarify though, I'm not at all saying that people from other countries aren't polite. It was just weird to see 3 posts in a row from fellow Canadians, eh!:)

Yeah, I guess the last couple of weeks have been a bit stressful. And there seems to be some others beginning the MIJ bashing again. We, those of us that have this affinity, don't bash others' threads for their closed minded, single brand loyalty that makes them who there are. They can't seem to leave others to their own without bashing.

It's all good, bro, just not really looking forward to another scrap because others can't seem to get it that the economy has driven many people to the sidelines and to the vestiges of MIJ collecting rather than Ludwig or Slingerland or Gretsch...hell, I would love to have the ability to grab a Midnight Blue Pearl Gretsch in 20-12-14 with matching snare, but that would be absurdly over-reaching my abilities and pocketbook.

Hey everyone this is Nick.

I am the worship leader of the Caro Assembly of God youth ministry

in Caro, and I just wanted to say that John has given Tyler something

to chase after with all his heart. The joy that came from me to see him

on the first night with his new kit was unexplainable. The drums sounded

absolutely amazing with unending resonance, dynamic punch, pure

vintage tone, and killer low end to boot. Easily one of the best drum kits

I have ever laid eyes on and given what shells were used in the process

it just adds even more to the shock of how awesome they really are.

Tyler will likely never forget that evening of September 29th 2009, and

what's more is he now has even more ambition and drive to do what he

really loves. In a small town like Caro, that is worth more than what words

and money can do. I promise to get pictures, and an HD video up as soon as I can from my band's photographer. Tyler send's his thanks.

God bless you john, and the kindness of the rest of the forum members.

-Nick
