K Zildjian Istanbul 13" Hats Date?

Loading...

Hi Guys,

Need your help here.

What can you please tell me about the date and value of my K Zildjian Istanbul 13" Hats. They weigh 560 & 580 grams.

EDIT: Diameter is 13 1/8" and the center hole is 3/8". No "signature" in the cup. I found a letter "G" near the edge and on the reverse side of both cymbals. (See my photos below of cymbals, stamp, & "G").

BTW Moniker has nothing to do with my drumming!

They are Old Stamps......

Bill H. will be along shortly to date it to the year

Put the tape across the bottom of the cymbal to get exact measurements..........

They look like a pair of Type IIa old stamps. Based on Drumaholic's earlier timeline, they would be from around 1945-1950. Confirmation of that, and current value will have to come from Bill.

This was based on the size and placement of the star, the way Made in Turkey is wraped around the crescent, the earlier arabic script, the smaller size of the K preceding Zildjian, and a few other features.

Found this posted by Drumaholic on Cymbalholic...."Istanbul type I old stamp showing the "G" stamp in the form in which it appeared during the two Istanbul eras when it was used. The is a small letter found near the edge and on the reverse side. This indicates distribution from the Gretsch warehouse." I might add since the "G" is on both cymbals they may have been matched.

That's interesting. I was blissfully unaware of the "G"s. Of couse in this case the cymbal is not, I believe, a type I old stamp but a type IIa. I'm wondering if the "G"s were added in Istanbul or at the Gretsch factory in Brooklyn, NY.

I started doing some research and found multiple Threads concerning old stamps and that clued me into looking for other markings. Thread: Letter designations on Constantinople K's on Cymbalholic by DRUMAHOLIC. "G" indicates distribution from the Gretsch warehouse, and is found only on Istanbul K. types I and IIa.

It also stated that an "F" stamp was from the foundry and a "G" was from Gretsch. I know the Paiste line up and it is not as complicated and easy to find solid information.

Thank you for your help.

The "G" stamps were added at the Gretsch warehouse. I've even seen an Ajaha with one. Since I posted that ingo on Cymbalholic I've found "G" stamps on everything from the last Constantinople period up to and including the type IIb.

That being wartime, how many cymbals were made then? I know metal items were banned in wartime from being produced by various companies.
