Vinatge cymbal cleaning?

So how is everyone cleaning their 50/60 y.o. (haven't been cleaned ever!) cymbals these days? Mine look terrible and I want them clean to match the rest of the kit, but I don't want to damage them either.... I remember in high school using Comet or Ajax to clean the marching cymbals, but I'm not sure if I wanna do that with mine...

Our band director would have beat the snot out of anyone touching a cymbal with Comet......... holy crap.

Never anything abrasive...............

It was HIS idea and it did work. They sure cleaned up nice, but then again HE wasn't a drummer per-say...

Shoot us some pics.... they may not need cleaning with any chemicals at all.
