Later Star Snare Lug

Loading...

Dear Fellow Members,

I recently acquired a set of Star drums from around 1970-1973. The foot pedal is stampted "Imperial Star". The skins all read "Star".The chrome snare is pristine except for one dented lug which didn't crack...just dented. These are long narrow lugs, not like the earlier Star or Supreme.I can't send pictures.Sorry. I'm learning.Does anyone have one for sale? Mikey? The rest of the set is perfect from the rims to the hardware! I am having them re-wrapped however.Electricians' tape can ruin anything over forty years!

Thank you very much!

Brian

Dear jonnistix,

You are a genius! How do you do it? Again, you are right on the money! Like I've said many times on The Forum, you are a fantastic and patient teacher! I've learned so much. I am a good drummer but, a better writer. If you go to Amazon.com, you'll view my latest book, "The Bouncer".I thank you, John. If anyone has such a lug for sale, please let me know!

You're the best!!!!

Well, I thank you, but the truth is, I learned this all here, and through touching and holding. Another lesson: Short of the very early 60s snare, Star lugs are only two. Type A, SoundKing, Type B, Teardrop. The early ones are a bit Gretschy...but not really...and only on the snare. The toms are soundking all the way back. And look at the muffler knob...look familiar? It's also Slingerland style. They had NO couth...and another secret...I ain't a drummer, as much as I wish I were, there is no debating it, listen to my playing on my youtube, if you really need a good laugh, turn it up so you can hear it....it's that bad.

jonnistix.

Thank you for another good lesson! You are, in my opinion, a great teacher. You have accumulated vast knowledge and willingly dispense with it for the sake of helping others learn. Thank you.

I'm going to check out your drumming skill later (I'm not even sure if this old computer can handle youtube) but, I'd bet you're a lot better than what you give yourself credit for!

Yo, jonnistix!

Naw, I didn't get the strainers yet. I'm not worried. Whenever is good for me.

I couldn't get into youtube. I tried to upgrade some damned thing but, it didn't work! That's fine. I think that you are probably pretty good.

I've written Mikey a couple of times about the Star snare lug but, like you say, he's a busy guy.

I'm still amazed at your capacity to absorb facts and concepts. You are a modest guy but, The Drum forum is lucky to have such a talented individual contributing!

As always, your number one fan!
