I did it with Elmer's on my WMP resto-and they look OK. Given you are using the heat glue, they should look really good. I am about to do a veneer wrap, you beat me to it! Did you do some pix? I am going to want info and technique as I am not about to build a vac bag set-up.

Here's the full setup shot, currently using my red spkl Artist with the kit, but on the look out for a 60s snare re-wrap candidate to veneer and complete the kit.
