I won't get on a box, but I will say I don't like this goofy Universality way of doing business. I still love the quaint idea of custom hand crafting. Very few companies do that these days. Shame. I miss it. Violin

I'm going to take the same road,That's why I play vintage!Oops except for my Dw 5000 pedal 2000 model which was one of the last true made in america products! they produced, metal wise I'm speaking!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

It's also possible that the foundry is elsewhere in USA...... Who knows... I just want my pedal to work.

Like I said, I'd try some red loctite on the outside of the bearing and fit it back into the post. It should be ok after that.

Ok kids......... put on your lolerskates.......

I have to play a gig tommorow!!! AAAH

My NC SK is over at the drum shop awaiting repair... I have here... My studio set which I don't want to cherry pick from... A Sonor Champion (mediocre shape) and 2 70's SK's that were sold to me in "operable" condition. So I grabbed an SK and tried it... she be stiff. It's evening on Saturday, and I have not the supplies here to get after it... I need it at 6 AM tommorow to be working... and it's NOT!

Hooray for Discount Drug Mart... If you have one of these in your neighborhood you know what I'm talking about... It's a modern General Store.

Silver Paint...Wheel Bearing grease (Valvoline Brand)... and solvents to disolve the old junk.. and some painters tape... LET's GO!!

End caps came off ok using the "Whack the goal post with a hammer method...." and there was the adhesive!! er... old grease... Is there a difference? I threw the parts in the solvent for a soak... and went to a job.. and ate dinner. Washed all the parts up.. dried them with a heat gun.. you need one of these if you don't have one.. sprayed the goal posts silver again.. and the bottom plate silver again.. and accelerated the drying with the heat gun again.. This Dulled the silver "chrome" paint and made it look more like the original (Lucky!) I repacked all the bearings.. just like my daddy did when we worked on the car.. and put it together with mass ammounts on clean grease.. The "Snap" is back.. and it should be ready to kick some drum tommorow.. LOL.. All done in less than a half day.

BTW... the cams in the Chicago are different than those in the Monroe! Bet you didn't know that! The Monroe cams are more "Peg" like than 3/4 moon like in the Chicago. Make any sense?

FYI

So now I can play my gig tommorow.

"Peg" was such an awsome drum track, they honored it with the parts change. At least, that's how I heard it.

Mr. Murphy is laughing at me for sure today...

Since I was happy about fixing the one SK...

I went and got the other 70's SK.. the one that looked "worse"... took it apart only to find that the grease was still soft and all I would have had to do was put a good beater on it and play. I will fix the cosmetics on it, but boy do I feel like a silly head. It really should be serviced, but to find it usable even though it looked like hell... is a little amusing.

Tommorow I will have not only a functional, but a good looking SK... that's still a win. And it needed fixed anyway..

Thanks all,

A lot of great info in this thread. I think I will revisit some SK carcasses that I never could throw out.

cheers,

Well, I went from zero working SK's to 2... soon to be 3.

Mineral Spirits or something that'll disolve grease... fresh grease, tools and patience... and you'll be back in biz.
