Speed King *&*$)%#!!!

Loading...

I have a young speed king... the newer NC made black one... and the bloody thing broke down. The fork seperated from the goalpost (one side) which jammed up the works. What the hell.. I took it half apart.. the broke side the bearing fell out in my hand... the other side it won't come out... I can't get it off the cam...

Anyone else had this happen?

Can't say I've ever had this happen. Sounds like you need to remove the roll pin on the undamaged side to get the cam out. And on the damaged side it sounds like the roll pin broke or was missing to begin with. How old is it? If you bought it new and its not that old you should be able to have it fixed or replaced under warranty.

BTW, pics of the problem areas would be very helpful to others to help you get it fixed as your description of what actually broke and is the problem is a bit vague.....

The cam that goes into the bearing at the "Goalpost" is sliding out sideways... the fork is all together with both cams attached. I am taking it over to my local drum genius.. otherise I fear I'm going to break it worse with frustration. It's a USA one.. North Carolina... I've got 2 Chicago 70's ones.. so I'm not SOL for my Gig... I thought I'd take it easy on the older ones and use the young one... DOH!!! If there's a pin that keeps the cam in the goalpost, that would be the thing missing or broken... the bearing in the unbroken side doesn't come out easily... so Rather than get really mad... I contacted a veteran of these things.

If it was just the usual stuck up grease mess, I'd have it done already.

Sounds like the bearing has come apart, or possibly the fit of the bearing into the frame isn't tight enough. Unfotunately the tooling for the speed king is rather worn and some of the earlier black monroe ones suffer from this. I've heard that they've finally replaced some of the worn out tooling to fix some of the issues they've had in recent years with fitment/slopiness problems.

it should be the latter, as the bearing is all together... it looks like the modern sealed type... The separated side's bearing dropped out easily... the other side was super solid.. the bearing refused to come out...
