So we got a SWEET vintage set of pearls the other day from (egads) Guitar Center. We went to exchange a cable, and ended up buying an entire kit!
They had it marked as a Pearl President series, but I'm not so sure that's what it is. Looking at the catalogs from that era, I can only find pictures of the challenger series (from '68), but this has more and different lugs. Also, the badges don't say President on them, but from what I can find, the first couple years were just the big "Pearl" badges. These things are surprisingly difficult to find info on, considering they were supposed to be the flagship model that brought Pearl into the big leagues.
They sound KILLER (I've never heard a bass with such a sweet BOOM), and they even had what we think were probably the original heads (def. the resonants, quite possible the beaters, though we swapped them out and saved the old ones).
Sadly it was only the bass, floor, and rack, but they were only $250! It's tough to find 45yr old drums for that price, and we're definitely stoked.
Does anyone have any more info about these drums?
(Nevermind the cymbals in the pictures - we're building a little bit at a time, so we bought an Xs20 hat, and we're going to add a nice ride/crash or two later. Maybe a giant beat. And the snare is a stage custom I had lying around)
Thanks!
